Topic of the lecture:

Speech therapy, oral dysfunctions and aligners

Abstract:

In developmental age, orthodontic treatment with aligners should be integrated with an approach aimed at removing the underlying cause of malocclusion, which is often functional, for greater efficiency. In this context, protocols for functional exercises or re-education, with or without oral devices, are fundamental to achieving a complete therapeutic outcome that combines occlusal correction with the correction of proper oral functions. After contextualizing the topic of functional myotherapy and oral dysfunctions, protocols for exercises, methods of collaboration with speech therapists, and examples of hybrid orthodontics for the treatment of contracted upper jaws due to oral dysfunctions will be illustrated.
